Day 83: WTF?

First off, meet Lil’ Gossamer! He’ll be joining us in our travels while Gossamer is missing…

For those who attend Austin Community College, you may have noticed the search for a new mascot. I am not sure how many people actually are going to concern themselves over this issue. In fact, we are pretty sure no one is going to remotely care what we have to say in this little blog post of ours. The thing is, we at Gossamer’s Travels are completely obsessed with what the new mascot is going to be. For a while, we were cheering to be Chupacapra’s! How amazing would that be? Unfortunately, that mascot never made it and our dream of being Team Chupacapra faded away. As of now, ACC is having a final vote on four mascots: River Bats, Starblazers, Blazers, and Bbhoggawacts.

We refuse to be called Starblazers or Blazers. End of story.

River Bats is cute but very unimaginative.

Bbhoggawacts. What the hell is a Bbhoggawacts? Well, Madam or Sir, I shall tell you! Acctually, I’m just going to copy and paste what the ACC website says:

Pronounced (bo-ga-wax). Did you know “Keep Austin Weird” started with ACC? Actually, it was the brainchild of ACC Professor James (Red) Wassenich. A Bbhoggawact not only embraces the “Keep Austin Weird” theme, it is also an acronym for the eight counties that make up ACC’s 7,000-square-mile service area. Cross out the vowels and you have (B)astrop, (B)lanco, (H)ays, (G)illespie, (G)onzales, (W)illiamson, (C)aldwell, and (T)ravis Counties. A Bbhoggawact is a fictional character, 100% original, and can be defined by the community.

We still have no freakin’ idea what a Bbhoggawacts is but we knew we desperately want that to be our mascot.

Yay Team Bbhoggawacts!!!!!!!!!

7 Days of February

Here are the first pictures for February. We only have 327 more days until the insane project is done…

Day 32
Day 32: A Cold Night
It’s so freaking cold lately! We miss the hot Texas weather… We want to be outdoors in the sun!!

Day 33
Day 33: A Cold One
We went out to dinner at Logan’s roadhouse. We’re not huge on the steakhouse scene but Gossamer’s grandpapa LOVES it.

Day 34
Day 34: Soup For the Sick
Some of us have not been feeling well (stupid weather…) so we made a huge pot of stew. Mmm… looks good. We bet it smells good but all our noses are stuffed up…

Day 35
Day 35: Poetry
Our friend Grant wrote us a poem! Check it by clicking the picture or read this post

Day 36
Day 36: Let It Rock
Let it Rock! Let it Rock! Let it Rock!

Day 37
Day 37: My Little Insomniac
Who needs sleep when you can sit out all night watching the stars?

Day 38
Day 38: CHEESE!!!
We were at the Alamo Draft House and had CHEESE!!! We went to see Edge of Darkness (it was meh…) but the real entertainment was the pre-show. Playing in the background is some crazy-weird kung-fu movie.

We also have updated our FAQ! Check it out and ask questions!

Toodles!

New Home, New Adventures

We have moved out of our apartment. We are depressed but we now can focus on saving for our London trip. Only 5 more months and 1 day… not that we are counting or anything.

Until then, we shall continue with a ridiculously insane project of taking a picture everyday for a year.

Day 8
Day 8: Friends Say 'See Ya'
Our last group picture… for now. Gossy and Gj are in this picture with the folks we shared our apartment with. Tally (the Bunny in the pink shirt) came with us but Shay, (the other bunny) and Peace (the peace bear) went with my best friend Sara. She’s off starting a new life in college and we wish her the best. We wuv and you miss Sara, Tally, and Peace!!

Edit That little green monster sneaked into our apartment!!! He’s hiding in the back on the bed post. (Click the picture for a better look.) Ugh, that thing is really getting on our nerves. We might have to set up a trap for it soon.

Day 9
Day 9: Here We Are
Right now we’re just relaxing after a long day of working and moving. Gossy was lost in his thoughts thinking about the upcoming year.

Day 10
Day 10: Frost Tower
Frost Tower is just so freaking pretty… and best of all: SHINY!!

Day 11
Day 11: Late Night Snack
The past week has worn us all out. GJ comfort himself by indulging a night time snack of blackberries. Hmm… I wonder if anything bad could happen if he ate after midnight.

Ah well, Toodles!

Writing Fools

Gossy writing away

It is a bad habit of ours to take on ridiculous projects. This month, we decided to participate in Nanowrimo. National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is when you sit down, throw your sanity out the window, and write a novel within one month. Your goal is to reach 50,000 words by the the 30th. Crazy, I know. We are not doing too bad. As of now we have roughly 25,000 words (68 pages). We have a little status bar on the side if anyone is interested in our progress… Anyone? Hello? Yea… you. You are totally interested in our crazy writing project progress.

The best part is of course the writing meet-ups. Recently we tortured our brains in a 12 hour lock down. Yea, you read that right. For 12 long hours we stayed in a building and wrote with a couple dozen other folks. We were doing good until about 1 am when we took a break and played Apples to Apples. After that, Gossamer needed a nap.

Gossy Taking a nap durinthe the lockdown

It was hard to sleep when all you can think about is your word count. Luckily there was some food and caffeine heavy drinks to help us stay awake for rest of the event.

Mmm.... food.

It was a great, and brain melting event. We plan to go to a few more meet-us, just none as crazy as that one. The meet-ups are the only time we can actually sit down, and focus on writing. If we are left alone then we end up playing games, watching movies, or work on this blog.

Just for the heck of it, here is another picture of Gossamer at the Lock Down with a wombat, some penguins, and William Shatner’s head.

Gossy and Shatner

Toodles.

Thrill the World GJ!

On October 24, GJ and I went to Seaholm Power Plant to be part of Thrill The World! It’s a world wide event where everyone dances to Michael Jackson’s Thriller at the same exact time. (We’re part of a world record!!) After the event we all had a Michael Jackson dance party.

Thrill The World 2009 - Austin, Texas

Watch out!!!
Thrill The World 2009 - GJ is done for

Poor lil’ GJ almost got bit a few times, but he managed to survive without catching any zombie viruses. I did make him take a bath in Purell after the event though… Luckily, all his anti-zombie shots are up to date!

Revenge of the Buns: Veggie Dog Eating Contest

Day 98: Veggie Hot Dog Eating Contest

Event: Revenge of the Buns: Veggie Dog Eating Contest
When: July 4th, 2009
Where: Tiniest Bar in Texas (Austin, Tx)

Only in Austin, Texas will you find an event that has Zombie Veggie Hotdogs, a man dressed as a unicorn, other crazy costumes, and the mandatory live music all on Independence Day! July 4th was the 3rd annual Revenge of the Buns: Veggie Dog Eating Contest and it was a freakin’ blast! (We could have done without the record breaking heat, but whatever.) This 4th of July, we wanted to do something new and exciting! That resulted in us having a new found hatred of Hot Dogs…

Anyways, contestants in a doubles team or singles had 10 minutes to eat as many veggie dogs their bodies could take. Our team ate a combined total of 9.5 or 10.5 hot dogs. We were a bit delirious and lost count but we know for sure it’s over 9 and a half veggie dogs! The winning team ate 28 while the solo winner ate 16. We never knew how much it took to eat so much! Because of this event, we declared we are never entering in another food eating competition. Ever.

The event was amazing but seriously; keep hot dogs away from us!

Day 76: Day of Mourning
